Fake PSP Memory Stick: Paypal Refund

I was lucky, the seller of the fake 8GB Memory Stick Duo for my PSP gave me a refund, as I returned the item.

I doubt this happens to many people. I think I’ve learned my lesson and will have to do more extensive research the next time I think about buying something on eBay.

Caveat Emptor: Fake Sony Memory Sticks on eBay

I ordered an 8 gig Sony Memory Stick on eBay a week and a half ago and it arrived last Friday. I really haven’t messed with it too much, but I did put on a few videos that I encoded. A few times, the PSP said the videos were corrupted, but for the most part it worked. The memory stick said it had a capacity of ~7700 MB, so I assumed that everything was okay.

Until last night.

I was browsing a PSP forum and came across this:

http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/FAKE-Sony-Memory-Stick-Pro-Duo-MagicGate-Cards-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000001535763

Out of curiosity, I looked at my stick, and sure enough, the “T” in the serial number was present, the serial number wasn’t engraved as they said, and I experienced issues with corrupt data.

I filled out the complaint stuff on PayPal and contacted the seller, but I’m willing to bet I’ll be out the $70 I spent for it.

The seller had a solid feedback rating and several other people had bought the same item and left good feedback, so it appeared as though everything was good. The seller was also based in the US, as it seemed many similar products were being sold through Hong Kong, which seemed sketchy. Now I can see why this happened. The fake appears legitimate at first and then breaks down when you put a lot of data on it or use it for about a month or so, well after the time someone would leave eBay feedback. I left positive feedback as well, since I just slapped in the card, put on a movie, and it seemed to work.

Now I know better and to make sure I do more research before just jumping on the lowest price on eBay.

Newegg has a SanDisk 8GB version for ~$85, so I might go with that, knowing I can trust Newegg with their return policy if something goes wrong.

The cause of my (biking) problems:

http://www.branscome-inc.com/

The concrete company from hell.

Every day on Route 5, hundreds of dirt-filled dump trucks enter and leave this factory in Charles City County and make for some white-knuckled biking. Huge dump trucks howling by just inches from your arm at 55 mph. Foooooommmmm!

They also make these wakes of air that follow them, which boost you along when they are traveling in the same direction, but feel like a wall of dirt going the other way.

I mean really, what are they doing? Digging a hole to the center of the earth? There must be at least one truck every minute and a half during the 50 minutes or so I was on Route 5.

Not to mention the dust and dirt all over the place. It would be the perfect biking route if it wasn’t for this factory of doom.

Once you get west of it, then there are no more trucks, but then you have to turn around and go through it again.

Aside from that, Brian wants me to do a 3-hour ride with him this weekend. He found a route on the internet and wants to try it out now that the trainer says his knee is strong enough to use the bike. It sounds interesting, but could get a little sore towards the end. If my bike can hold together, that is. I’ve been looking at some new bikes since this one is 30 years old and makes all kinds of noises and doesn’t shift right. It’s also too big. I just need an entry level road bike that I can use to cross train or when I’m hurt, like now. Of course, as soon as I drop the money on one, I immediately get better and never have the opportunity to use it again, unless I want to risk biking to class with it. Of course, getting better immediately is just another incentive to get one. I was looking at the Lemond Nevada City, Bianchi Brava, and the one my dad has, Trek 1200. For something that is considered ‘entry level,’ they are all very expensive. There are some on eBay though, but then I also have to find one that is my size. Oh well, something to think about.

Today was also the best day so far for my achilles, but I can still feel it every once in a while.

Forget eBay

I found what I wanted on eBay but followed a link to the seller’s website and just ordered it from there.

Verification?

Trying to set up a Paypal account. It looks like this is going to take a while because I am trying to buy on eBay. It looks like it might take the remainder of the auction time just to get this thing set up. I have no idea what to do if I actually win on what I bid.
