On my ride today I was going down Atlantic when an explosion ripped through my bike. It sounded like a gunshot and nearly knocked me over. The tire had blown out and was nearly cut in half. Fortunately my dad came, dropped off his bike while I gave him mine and I was on my way, but I was pretty mad about the whole incident. Somehow my sunglasses broke in the whole ordeal too.
My equipment is really getting run down, one thing I really don’t like about cycling is the reliance on a machine. With running you don’t have to worry about stuff like that happening. Plus all the stuff is so expensive. It’ll be at least $50 for a new tire. I’ll have to get new sunglasses too, which isn’t so much protection from the sun as it is a shield from all the crap that cars fling at you as they pass.
And of course while that stuff has to be replaced, my helmet is coming apart, the shoes I’ve got are all dented and scuffed up, and the components on the bike are really wearing down which makes shifting really violent. If I had an extra $5000 I would just go replace it all, but I’ve got to take care of housing costs and of course all the upcoming expenses for this knee surgery.
I guess in two weeks it won’t really matter anyway.
