I’m going to lose all my data. It’s just one thunderstorm or one spilled cup of water away. I’ve got gigs of programs and papers I’ve done for school not to mention loads of mp3s, custom maps, and other game files. If I lose my Steam stuff, I’ll have to redownload over 3 gigabytes. I think I’m going to have to get some kind of backup solution. The cheapest option would be to get some kind of DVD-RW drive and just burn everything to a couple of DVDs. A step up from that would be either a firewire or network connected standalone hard drive. Those would run upwards of $300 but I could easily transfer stuff to it. The problem is that I am slowly running out of disk space as it is. With all my games on one computer and all my school stuff on the laptop, I’ve had enough space for the past couple years, but it is steadily eroding away. The school doesn’t offer much help with storage, since the general school account offers 50 megs and the CS account a measly 20. I don’t get how they expect us to operate with 20 megs, with less than 300 students/faculty in the department they could easily get 2 250 gig drives and have 2 gigs for each person.
Out of curiosity I was looking at grad school applications and noticed they were much more concise than the undergrad ones I had. Basically, you take the GRE, get a transcript, write a few things about your academic career, and get a couple reccomendations. Some schools want you to take the CS GRE too. I don’t know about the reccomendations though. I’ve had a different prof for each CS course so far and haven’t had much of a relationship with any of the professors. Time to start making some friends, I guess.
I’ve also been doing some work to get a different internship for next summer. So far I haven’t had much luck, mainly because I think most of the internships for next summer haven’t been posted yet. A few companies only have lowly data entry jobs posted, so I axed those. I found one from Boeing where I would work in St. Louis, but I was mainly looking for stuff on the West Coast, anywhere in or north of San Francisco because of the mild summer climate. Of course whatever I do find I will have to apply and then get accepted, which may or may not happen.
Ah well, I still have some time to deal with these things. There are more pressing tasks at hand right now. It’s off to bed for me.

Yeah I’m considering a DVDR for the same reasons… Newegg had one for like $50 bucks the other week. I’m sure there are even better deals if you hunt around fatwallet.com
If you’re looking for coding jobs, my professors are saying that Lockheed is looking for coders. Something like 100 of ‘em.
