Reloaded…

I went out and saw it last night with the small remainder of the team — there were only five of us there last night. Overall I thought it was pretty good — a good storyline combined with good action sequences. I know a lot of people expected to be blown away like they were with the first one, but I was pretty sure it would be more of an extension of the first movie, and not something completely new. At the end of the movie, things got weird and it was difficult to tell what really happened.

From my perspective, it appeared that the real world as Neo and everyone else knew it was within another sort of false reality. The “creator” stated that there had been five or six different Matrices, each one having nearly similar events as the previous. The Matrix was set up into a temporal causality loop of sorts to handle Neo, to prevent him from freeing everyone within the Matrix. In each version, Neo would enter the mainframe and the whole simulation would reset itself. Except that this time Neo hit the sentinel within the loop and supposedly in the next movie the results will become apparent. But the creator also refers to Zion being rebuilt on each pass through the loop. That would imply that the real world, too, is part of the Matrix. This is further reinforced by the end scene where Neo disables the attacking sentinels with a wave of his hand.

The question is, if everything is part of the Matrix, then what is the true “real world”?
